Careers at Leesons

LEESON’S LOGGING & CARTAGE is a professional harvesting and haulage business that has a skilled workforce that covers machine operators, truck drivers, maintenance and administration. Leeson’s are an equal opportunity employer with a valued workforce of 64 people.

The job opportunities we offer in our administration department range from receptionist, administration officer, payroll clerk to costing management. These positions have a high degree of ‘on the job’ training as our software programs are specific to the forest industry.

The harvesting department is composed of a harvesting manager and machine operators using a range of machinery i.e. Forwarders, Harvesters, Skidders and Feller Bunchers.

The transport department is based at our Rosedale workshop. Trucks are despatched from this Depot to all parts of Gippsland and beyond. Loads are collected from HVP or Midway Ltd plantations and delivered to AP Maryvale, Midway Geelong, CHH Morwell and other smaller mills around the area.

Our maintenance department is split over two areas, harvesting and haulage. Both departments are structured with the maintenance manager overseeing both areas, and support staff along with the utilisation of specialists (i.e. structural fabrication) across both the areas.

Our trucks and trailers are maintained by the transport maintenance manager and a team of fully qualified and apprentice mechanics at the Rosedale workshop. Our machinery is serviced and repaired by our field service maintenance personnel using fully equipped service vehicles as 80% of our machinery breakdowns are rectified in the forest.

We are constantly looking to add experienced people to our workforce and offer modern harvesting machines, mainly imported from Sweden and North America, coupled with our truck fleet of Kenworth and Western Star trucks.

We offer ‘on the job’ training for both forest machine operators and truck drivers using our experienced supervisors. A nationally recognised licence is issued for all harvesting machines once an operator has reached the required level of competency.

The forest industry offers long term, well paid employment using modern machinery in an environment where self-regulation and the ability to work unsupervised are its key assets.
